We love getting in touch with the TentBox community to find out more about their adventures, and we recently caught up with Andrew O’Neill to do just that.

Andrew is a proud owner of the TentBox Lite – our most tiny tent that packs away nicely on top of your car but still folds out to create a comfy sleeping pod for two. Complete with a mattress and integrated skylight, the TentBox Lite is one of our most popular TentBox models.

We caught up with Andrew to learn more about his exciting TentBox adventures!

What TentBox Do You Have And Why?

My wife and I decided to go with the TentBox Lite because we love camping and liked the traditional style of the tent. Listening to the raindrops on the canvas at night is one of our favourite things about camping, and the TentBox Lite is perfect for this.

What Do You Love About TentBox?

What isn’t to love? We have had a couple of shocking experiences camping with a regular tent, and decided that we needed to invest in something more substantial.

Our TentBox Lite takes the hassle out of finding a flat, level, tent pitch with a view. It’s the most comfortable tent I have ever experienced and it’s so easy to erect when you have found the perfect spot.

What Was Your First TentBox Experience Like?

Our first trip was just a couple of miles away down the Fife East coast to Elie. We wanted to have a test run just to settle our nerves for wild camping, so this was the perfect spot. This trip also gave us the opportunity to visit our favourite pub (The Ship Inn @ Elie) and enjoy a delicious meal with a fantastic bottle of wine.

With the car already parked and ready all we had to do was make our way back to it and settle in for the night. Our first little trip really packed a punch, we had an incredible sunset and sunrise, plus a room with a perfect sea view – and it cost us nothing!

Where Is Your Favourite Place To Visit With Your TentBox?

We love the Isle of Harris & Lewis. With our holiday to Mexico this year cancelled, we decided to replace it with the stunning white beaches of the Outer Hebrides.

It’s a fair distance to travel even living in Fife. We drove up to Ullapool and caught the ferry across to Stornoway. Our first destination was the stunning beaches at Luskentyre, which is stunning. It’s such a dramatic landscape and well worth the journey.

With the weather closing in we hunkered down for the night and planned our next move. The next day we travelled further south to Rodel, where we discovered Sam’s Seafood Shack, amazing fresh local fish caught that morning, if you love seafood this is a must visit!

We headed back to Stornoway to shelter from the beautiful Scottish weather and grab a coffee, after a wander around the town and the castle grounds we had a very pleasant meal at The Boatshed Restaurant.

A short 40 minute drive to Kneep and our pre-researched campsite followed (Traigh na Beirigh) and after another easy TentBox set-up we settled down for the night. We awoke to a stunning view of Reef beach, this was a fantastic location and we were able to pick up some fresh scallops from The Scallop Shack too. When we travel we love trying as much local produce as possible!

On our final day we headed up to the north coast to view and walk around the Butt of Lewis lighthouse at Port of Ness before heading back to Stornoway to pick up some famous Harris Gin and catch the ferry back to the mainland.

Would You recommend TentBox?

Absolutely! I think it gives you freedom and choice in where and how you camp, it also puts a fun unique twist back into camping.

We love our space and the Tentbox Lite gives you so much room, but still packs away into a small space on the roof, so it gives us freedom to travel whenever we like.

We live in Scotland but the TentBox is helping us discover more of it every time we go away. There’s no need to plan for weeks in advance anymore, it has made us far more spontaneous!
