Are you looking for some sustainable New Year’s Resolutions for 2021? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

At TentBox, we’re proud to champion local travel that reduces carbon emissions and promotes enjoying local natural landscapes without flying to a destination. With a tent on your roof, you can be a lot kinder to the environment and cut back on your carbon emissions.

In 2020, COVID-19 stopped us travelling altogether, but we’re hoping that in 2021 we can travel sustainably again and make some exciting New Year’s Resolutions to keep us accountable. If you want to explore the option of sustainable New Year’s Resolutions, take a look at our top 5 for 2021…

1. Cut down on single use plastics (and all materials, really)

One of the best New Year’s resolutions you can make this year is to cut down on your use of plastics, and all materials really. Making a commitment to refuse single use materials is one of the best ways to reduce your environmental impact.

This means carrying reusable utensils like a reusable coffee cup, straws and plastic bags, as well as reducing your purchasing of plastics. A good tip is to target one area of your home and work through it.

You might like to look at cutting down non-organic material waste in your bathroom area as a resolution in 2021. This might involve changing your shampoo brand, using reusable containers, reducing your paper towel or toilet paper use and even DIYing your own natural bathroom essentials like soap, face masks and bathroom cleaner with organic materials. For example, the combination of baking soda, white vinegar and essential oils makes a great bathroom cleaner!

2. Shop second hand for clothes

Instead of buying endless amounts of clothes online, and changing your style every month, try to shop second hand to reduce your clothing waste. We all know the many issues with fast fashion, however many of us ignore them and continue to buy new clothes constantly.

This year why not make a resolution to buy less clothes and not only save money, but save the planet too? The small, achievable goal of buying second hand clothes from charity shops, depop, ebay and the like can make a huge difference over the year.

3. Buy from sustainable brands

If you’re going to be purchasing, make sure that you’re making conscious choices and buying from sustainable brands. Do your research on brands before you buy from them and ensure that their ethos is one of sustainability. For example, TentBox plants a tree for every TentBox sold to ensure that you can protect the planet whilst you travel sustainably.

4. Cut own on your meat consumption

We’re not suggesting that you cut back on meat altogether, however even if you cut down once or twice a week you will be doing a great thing for the environment. Some people choose to only eat meat on weekends, or commit to having one meat free day a week and that is a great sustainable new year’s resolution for 2021.

5. Travel locally as a sustainable New Year’s resolution

One of the best sustainable new year’s resolutions you can make is to travel locally and reduce your overseas travel. This has been easy over the past year, with COVID-19 reducing how much we can travel but in 2021, making the resolution to actively travel locally to reduce your carbon emissions is a great idea.

Having a TentBox reduces your material waste with a much more durable and long lasting solution to your average tent which will need to be replaced regularly. Plus, it encourages you to travel more regularly and explore the beauty on your own doorstep.
