Best UK Autumn Camping Spots
Ennerdale Water, Lake District
Shorter days mean more darkness, and more darkness means stargazing in your TentBox. This is particularly spectacular if you have the TentBox Lite, which features a star-gazing-friendly roof. What’s better than lying down in your rooftop tent and looking up at the stars?
And where better to do it than the Lake District? One of the best places to stargaze in the Lake District is Ennerdale Water. It is the most remote lake in the whole of the Lake District, and the valley in which it lies is the least populated.
The lack of light in the surrounding area makes this one of the most beautiful spots to stargaze on an Autumn night.
Wenlock Edge, Shropshire
If you want to immerse yourself in stunning forests and views over the rolling hills of Shropshire, then Wenlock Edge is not to be missed. This 18-mile National Trust protected forest is full of English charm, and is even highlighted as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its unique woodland.
In Wenlock Edge itself, much of the ancient grasslands and National Trust 8-mile area is not camping-friendly, however there are plenty of camp sites in the surrounding areas that will accommodate a TentBox. Shropshire is known for its lush, green landscape and incredible historic sites that make it well worth a visit.
Cowes, Isle of Wight
Cowes is known as one of the most beautiful camping spots, set right on the beach on the Isle of Wight. If you’re feeling a quick trip across the solent, then this is a great Autumn camping location.
The Isle of Wight is generally very quiet in off-season, and in Autumn the Isle of Wight benefits from warmer weather than other more northerly locations. Thorness Bay is a great camping spot to check out. Set over multiple fields with views over the solent, it’s a peaceful haven that feels very private.
Freshwater, Pembrokeshire
Why not make the most of the warmer Autumn days with long beach walks and a saunter through village shops? At Freshwater, that’s exactly what you can do. It is one of the most beautiful beach side camping spots in the UK, complete with sand dunes and coastal walks.
Much of the village of Freshwater East and West is set on a cliff, offering stunning views over a blue ocean bay.
Gupton Farm is a lovely camping location in Freshwater West, which features a National Trust-owned coastline characterised by well-kept sandy beaches. When the weather is bright, this spot is one of the best coastal sites in the UK.
Savernake Forest, Wiltshire
Savernake Forest can be found in the heart of Wiltshire, near the market town of Marlborough. The forest lays on a chalk plateau, offering 4,500 acres of unique ancient woodland and Sites of Special Scientific Interest. In Autumn, this forest is an incredible place to come and immerse yourself in nature.
Whilst the entire forest shows off it’s colours in Autumn, one tree in particular catches the attention of tourists. The native Big Belly Oak in Savernake Forest has stood in the same spot for over 1000 years. The tree took root at around the same time William the Conqueror defeated King Harold in 1066.
