No matter where you’re going, you’re always going to see people driving around in motor vehicles (at least until we all start using rockets or something to get to the moon instead!) People commuting, doing the school run and driving around for personal use – no matter what they’re doing, they’ll be on the roads at some point. So just how many people in the UK own motor vehicles? Statistics show us that at the end of March 2018, there were 37.9 million licenced vehicles in Great Britain – a huge number when you think that only 100 years ago the average car cost more than 100 x a weekly wage!

So what are the best selling cars so far this year?

10 – Mercedes C-Class

Coming in at tenth we have the Mercedes C-Class with 16,414 GB registrations to date. The C-Class was also in the top ten ranking in 2016 and 2017. If you live in the UK this will definitely be a familiar model on the roads. The German brand has high hopes of increasing sales even more within the next few months as they plan to release a new model very soon.

9 – Volkswagen Polo

The Volkswagen Polo, in ninth place has seen 16,533 registrations so far this year. It’s not a shock to see this on the top ten list. This car has been popular in the UK for a very long time due to its’s versatility and is well known to be great for busy city work.

8 – Mercedes A-Class

Mercedes will be pleased that another one of their models are performing well as the A-Class is 8th in this list with 17,788 registrations so far this year. Talks about an all-new model being unveiled has helped the A-Class make headlines of late, making sure there is continued strong interest in the car.

7 – Mini

Made by BMW, the Mini stormed into the top ten best selling cars in the UK back in March and is now in seventh place. The Mini has seen new 17,802 registrations to date. With its great dynamic driving style and affordable price, it’s no shock to see this in the top ten cars of 2018. The Mini also has a very high resale value, meaning if the car is kept in good condition and has no problems, you will most probably earn more back than you would with any other vehicle.

6 – Ford Kuga

The vast amount of passenger space the Ford Kuga has to offer has likely been a big reason for its spot in the top ten, coming in at sixth with 18,570 registrations so far. The Kuga is a great family car which boasts large amounts of passenger space although the boot may be slightly smaller than rivals on the market. Nevertheless, this has earned a well-deserved spot on the list.

5 – Vauxhall Corsa

If you live in the UK, you won’t be surprised to see this in the Top 10. The Corsa comes in at fifth spot with 21,927 registrations to date and was also ranked fifth in the 2017 top ten list. The Corsa has proved its worth, being seen as great value for money and its popularity with many driving schools.

4 – Ford Focus

The Ford Focus comes in at fourth place with 25,917 registrations in the UK. You can expect to see even more of these on the road in the future as the company have announced that a new model is due on the roads this September.

3 – Nissan Qashqai

The only Nissan on the list has made it into a podium spot, with 26,127 UK registrations bringing it to third position, just outnumbering the Ford Focus. The Nissan Qashqai is the most popular SUV in Britain, making it a very popular family car. With its stylish looks and dynamic driving style it’s no surprise that this is third on the list.

2 – Volkswagen Golf

The Volkswagen Golf, which also claimed the same spot in 2017, comes in second with a huge 33,057 UK registrations in 2018 so far. The Volkswagen sure does have the skills to pay the bills, but it doesn’t quite have the fire and desire to overtake the Fiesta in pole position.

1 – Ford Fiesta

The number one place has once again been claimed by the Ford Fiesta with a whopping 47,515 registrations. Having outsold its biggest rivals by more than 14,000 registrations, the Fiesta is ‘riding solo’ and taking the top ten list by storm, making it the most bought car in 2018.
