The Jurassic Coast region expands across East Devon, Purbeck, West Dorset as well as Weymouth & Portland. With a long history supported by The Jurassic Coast’s interactive, ‘Walk Through Time’, there is plenty of heritage to discover. Preserved by The Jurassic Coast Trust it has been a World Heritage Site since 2001.
Travel & Accommodation
There are around fourteen campsites across The Jurassic Coast but you can book into a variety of different hotel accommodation if you wanted to alternate between camping and a hotel stay. These include glamping, holiday parks and even hostel options.

Please note, it is always best to plan ahead and drive towards a certain town or location. We would recommend Weymouth as all aspects of the Jurassic Coast can be visited either side. This provides a handy starting point to explore the large stretch of coast.

East Devon
Popular areas of East devon are:
• Exmouth – a popular watersports destination with two miles of beach and exe estuary.
• Sidmouth – includes villas and mansions which have been converted into hotels as well as Jacob ’s Ladder, a beach for families.
• Beer – home to a miniature railway and beer quarry caves.
• Seaton – includes shingle beaches and access to the Undercliffs Reserve.
The Purbecks
Areas of interest in The Purbecks are:
• Durdle Door – a major landscape accessible by car.
• Lulworth Cove – a popular site of interest due to its unique geology.
• Kimmeridge – a village which features key geology and fossil hunting opportunities.
• Swanage – a town with steam railway and pier.
• Old Harry Rocks – an area great for walking, managed by The National Trust.
West Dorset
Key areas in West Dorset to venture to include:
• Lyme Regis – a small seaside town, home of the Lyme Regis museum.
• Charmouth – famous for its fossils and fossil hunting tours.
• Golden Cap – the highest coastal point in the South of England
• West Bay – the harbour town of high geological interest
• Chesil Beach – a 18 mile long length of beach.
Weymouth and Portland
Reasons why you should visit Weymouth and Portland include:
• Weymouth’s links to the Jurassic coaster bus and it acts as a central point for visiting the coast.
• The Isle of Portland’s large amounts of Jurassic and military history as well as geological interests.
