FreeStander Freestanding Awning – Setup & Care Guide

In this quick guide, we walk you through how to assemble and disassemble your FreeStander freestanding awning.

Assembly 

Your FreeStander will arrive boxed, with all parts in one bag (including the second bag). Take care in opening your parcel, and do not use a knife when opening as this could damage your Freestanding awning.

Assembly is broken down into two parts – assembling the outer pop-up shelter and installing the clip-in inner pod.

Part 1: Assembling the pop-up shelter

  1. Unpack the bag. Take care in removing the pop-up shelter, clip-in inner pod, pegs and guy ropes.

  2. Lay all items out onto the floor and identify each individual part. The pop-up shelter can be identified as the all-black item with steel poles.

  3. Stand your pop-up shelter vertically and allow the poles to fall out naturally. Before extending the poles, you need to pop up the inner section with gentle force.

  4. Once the inner section has been popped up, you will need to extend each of the x4 steel poles. You will hear a click when these have been extended correctly.

  5. Each corner of the pop-up shelter now needs to be popped into the correct position.  Do this one by one.

  6. Your pop-up shelter is now ready to be maneuvered into position. Take extra care on windy days. We recommend pegging down each corner into position while adjusting the shelter to keep it firmly in place.

  7. Once in position, peg all four corners into place and your pop-up shelter is ready for use!

Part 2: Installing the clip-in inner pod

  1. Once your pop-up shelter has been correctly installed, identify the top of the clip-in inner pod. This is easily done by finding the doors & windows, which will allow you to spot the central clip.

  2. Clip the central clip into the highest, central section of the pop-up shelter.

  3. Once the central clip is secure, you can now proceed to clip each corner clip.

  4. Now the clips are secured into the upper portion of the pop-up shelter, the lower corner clips can now be popped into place.

  5. Once the upper & lower clips have been secured, you can now clip the connectors onto the upper poles.

  6. Each leg has loops. On the inner-pod identify the hooks & hook them into place.

  7. Use the pegs provided to secure the FreeStander into place. On windy days, we recommend using the guy ropes provided.

  8. Your FreeStander is now up & ready to go!

Disassembly 

Part 1: Removing the clip-in inner pod

  1. Remove ground fixings: Take out any guy ropes and pegs securing the FreeStander to the ground.

  2. Unhook the legs: Unhook the inner-pod hooks from the loops located on each leg.

  3. Disconnect upper pole clips: Unclip the connectors attached to the upper poles.

  4. Release lower clips: Unpop/unclip the lower corner clips.

  5. Release upper clips: Unclip each of the upper corner clips.

  6. Detach the central clip: Unclip the main central clip from the highest point of the pop-up shelter and lower the inner pod to the ground. Fold it neatly and set it aside.

Part 2: Collapsing and packing the outer pop up shelter

  1. Remove corner pegs: Remove any remaining ground pegs securing the four corners of the pop-up shelter.

  2. Collapse shelter corners: Push or un-pop each of the four shelter corners back out of position.

  3. Retract steel poles: Disengage the locking pins (you will hear/feel them release) and collapse each of the 4 steel poles down.

  4. Collapse the inner section: Gently push down on the central inner section to collapse the pop-up core.

  5. Fold the shelter: Allow the poles to pull together naturally into a vertical position around the collapsed shelter.

  6. Pack away: Carefully fold and pack the pop-up shelter, clip-in inner pod, pegs, and guy ropes back into the storage bags. We recommend packing the inner-pod into the separate bag provided.

For safe use of your awning, please follow these guidelines:

Fire Prevention

  • Keep all entrances and exits clear at all times.

  • Do not place heaters, cooking equipment, or open flames near the fabric, roof, or side panels.

  • Always follow the manufacturer's safety instructions for any heating or cooking appliances.

  • Never leave children unattended near heat sources or cooking equipment.

  • Familiarise yourself with fire safety procedures and ensure you can exit quickly in an emergency.

Precautions

  • Choose a suitable location.

  • Always set up on flat, stable ground.

  • Avoid exposed areas prone to strong winds.

  • Do not set up in unsafe locations, such as near steep drops, unstable ground, or during severe weather.

  • Ensure the area is clear of sharp objects that could damage the fabric.

  • Ensure the area is clear of hazards that could cause damage or injury.

Assembly

  • Follow the instructions carefully when assembling the poles and frame.

  • Do not use excessive force, as this may cause damage.

Care & Maintenance

  • Keep the awning as dry as possible.

  • If it becomes wet, fully dry it as soon as possible to prevent mould.

  • Clean gently with cold water only. Do not use harsh chemicals or cleaning agents.
